Piersons Trip Around the World
After the Dolomites, we continued on to Croatia. Instead of flying, we arranged to drop our rental car in Trieste, Italy and arranged for a van transfer into Rovinj. Ferries were also an option, however due to schedules, we opted for the van that would deliver us straight to our apartment in the early afternoon. The ferry would have been a more exciting way to arrive, however the thought of searching for our apartment after arriving after dark wasn’t real appealing. The van transfer worked better for our situation.
The first stop on our tour through Croatia: Rovinj. Rovinj had a little bit of everything we were hoping to see in Croatia – great food, especially fresh seafood, a fun historic area to explore, and prices that didn’t break the budget.
Working our way from the Northern tip of Croatia to the South, we left Rovinj and headed inland, first with a four night stop in Slovenia before continuing on to Zagreb. Looking back on our time in the two countries, we wished we had scheduled a little more time in Slovenia.
After departing Zagreb, we headed south to Split. En route to split, we scheduled a 3-hour stop in the Unesco World Heritage Site, Plitvace Lakes National Park. After an afternoon taking in the vistas of the impressive lakes and falls, we arrived in our home for the following week in Split, another very walkable seaside town.
